Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani met the president of Russia Vladimir Putin on Friday and praised Russia in his statement.
According to the AFP news agency, a statement published by the emir’s office said that Putin congratulated Qatar on the World Cup.
Al-Thani, on the other hand, responded by “praising Russia’s cooperation in organizing an international event”.
Russia hosted the previous FIFA World Cup in 2018. The country is currently barred from participating in international games due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
According to the information, Russia has practically not participated in the organization of the World Cup since February, i.e. after the start of the war of aggression. The country participated in an international security exercise last year.

Putin and al-Thani have met before. The emir thanked the Russian president for his support when the two met in October.

According to Putin, Russia has done everything to make Qatar ready to host the World Cup.

The Emir and Putin did not specify how Russia has helped Qatar.
The first match of the World Cup will be played on Sunday, when Qatar meets Ecuador.
