According to the ruling of the High Court in London, al-Makhtoum must pay 251.5 million pounds (about 300 million euros) to his sixth wife, 47-year-old Princess Haya of Jordan. For their children Al Jalila (14) and Zayed (9), the emir has to put another 290 million pounds (more than 340 million euros) on the table. The amount must cover alimony and security costs.
“Considering their status and the general threats of terrorism and kidnapping they face in such circumstances, they are particularly vulnerable and require enhanced security to ensure their safety in this country,” said High Court Judge Philip Moor. Court in London.
Danger
According to the judgment, that danger does not only come from third parties. Earlier, a British judge found that the emir had harassed and intimidated the princess “before and after her departure for England.”
Princess Haya, 45, a half sister of King Abdullah of Jordan, married the ruler of Dubai and current Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates in 2004. She has been granted temporary custody, but the sheikh wants their children to live with him in Dubai.
Princess Haya fled to London at the beginning of this year. The princess and her brother, Prince Ali, are among the best-known and most outgoing members of the Jordanian royal family and have a strong bond between them. Their mother, Queen Alia, was King Hussein’s third wife. They married in 1972. However, the marriage ended in tragedy; Alia died in a helicopter accident in 1977. Hussein passed away in 1999.
