Eminem: ‘Westside Boogie Album Is Therapeutic’

Signed to Eminem’s Shady Records label, rapper Westside Boogie released his second studio album titled Friday, June 17, 2022 MORE BLACK SUPERHEROES released. He was also a guest on the American radio show “Sway in the Morning”, where he and the presenter discussed a variety of topics that are also addressed on his new album. Without further ado, his label boss Eminem picked up the phone, called the radio show and was thus added to the conversation.

“I just wanted to congratulate Boogie, the album turned out amazing”, Eminem told the moderator. But he took the chance to question Eminem a little, so that a longer conversation arose, which also dealt with mental health and addiction. Eminem struggled with substance abuse for many years, which was made worse when his best man and good friend Proof was shot dead outside a Detroit nightclub. In 2007, he was hospitalized with a methadone overdose. Since then, the rapper says he’s clean.

Eminem later addressed his past drug issues openly in his music, most notably on his 2010 album RECOVERY. The radio interview was about the therapeutic effect of music: “I think one of the great things about rap music is that you can put so much of your life into music.” the rapper said in conversation. According to Eminem, Westside Boogie has also processed many experiences from his life on MORE BLACK SUPERHEROES:

“Everything is so great about this new Boogie album. And watching him get better and better is so amazing too. And he also integrated a lot from his life into this album. you know what i’m thinking It’s therapeutic.”
