After a long illness, Emiliano Mascetti, flag of Hellas Verona, with whom he played 11 seasons and also hit the record for goals scored in Serie A (35), passed only by Luca Toni in 2015, died at 79 on Wednesday evening.

The carreer

Born in Como on 11 March 1943, after making his debut in his hometown team, he moved to Pisa. In 1967 he moved to Verona, with which he immediately won promotion to Serie A. He remained with Hellas until 1980, except for two excellent seasons at Turin, from 1973 to 1975. In the yellow and blue, for him, many records: 330 appearances (second ever behind Luigi Bernardi) with 46 goals. Of these, 35 in A. Captain and symbol of Verona, he then returned to Hellas as sporting director in the golden age that culminated with the 1984-85 championship, with qualifications for the European cups and two Italian Cup finals.
