An emergency shelter for 350 asylum seekers in an event hall in Oostrum will only be available under a number of conditions.
This was decided by the Venray city council on Tuesday evening.
Safety
Emergency reception is the responsibility of the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA). This means that the organization is obliged to ensure safety inside and outside the shelter. If there are problems, the organization must provide a solution. That is what the council demands.

Health
The COA also arranges good health care for the residents and there must be daytime activities for the refugees. Finally, the municipality considers it important to use security and street coaches.
Little privacy
Asylum seekers will have limited privacy, because there will be no closed rooms in the hall. This is not possible due to fire safety. The location will be equipped with partition walls.
In six months
The shelter will not open immediately. The municipality thinks that is still too soon, because first all plans with various parties and protocols must be ready. What is certain is that the location will close in October or November.
Finally, COA also wants to open an asylum seekers center for several years in Venray. The council will consider this request after the elections.
