Since this week there has been an emergency school for refugee children from the Ukraine in Tegel. A comment from BZ editor Hildburg Bruns.

“The children shouldn’t look at a white wall from morning to night,” said Berlin’s governor Kai Wegner a month ago. His Senate has kept its word.

In just a few weeks, containers were piled up next to the Ukraine arrival center at Tegel Airport, in which the children can now spend their day as in a reasonably normal life: breakfast, learning, playing. And very important: everything together with other children.

Mothers are welcome too. They should find out how education and training work in Germany. Because the so-called dual system with vocational school and training company is foreign to many.

But of course, Berlin companies have hopes that young refugees will recruit young trainees. After all, there are currently 451 young adults in Tegel alone who definitely don’t want to twiddle their thumbs.

While the children in Tegel are being given new opportunities, empty heads in Wilmersdorf have devastated a nice place for Ukraine kids. They stole donations, laptops, game consoles. It would be nice if kind-hearted donors alleviate this trouble.
