112 only for life-threatening situations
For storm and water damage requiring assistance from the fire service, citizens can submit an application via the e-desk www.1722.be or dial 1722. “Only call 112 for situations that are potentially life-threatening,” said the FPS Home Affairs.
e-Loket 1722
Those who contact 1722 preferably use the e-counter, it still sounds. With a digital request via 1722, the request ends up directly with the fire brigade. “If you call 1722, it’s still the operators in the 112 emergency centers who will handle the calls to 1722. They handle the calls on separate phone lines so they send the most urgent calls to 112 first, such as from people who have a heart attack or whose home is on fire. If your fire department has its own e-counter, you can also go there.”
The purpose of the e-counter 1722 and number 1722 is not to overload the 112 emergency centers and not to keep people in danger of life waiting, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
