The streaming service HBO Max announced its price increases on Tuesday. In the messages sent by the service, it was announced that the price of the monthly subscription would rise from 8.99 euros to 9.99 euros.

This message confused many service subscribers.

Those who ordered the service when it came to Finland also received the message. At that time, the service promised a lifetime 50 percent discount in its campaign. The message received a discount enjoyed to their surprise.

– If a campaign discount is in use, the subscription price will increase after the end of the campaign period, HBO Max’s message stated.

Those who have been promised a discount will still receive a 50 percent discount on the service. This means that their €4.49 order becomes €4.99.

On the service’s Facebook pages, the company has apologized for its confusing communication. Based on the comment field, some subscribers have threatened to stop subscribing to the service.

According to the HBO Max website the price increase does not apply to annual subscribers. The company justifies the price increase with increased costs.

In the United States, HBO Max has already merged with Discovery+ into a streaming service called Max, where the prices have risen to $19.99 (€18.50) at their most expensive. According to the company, the reform will come to Europe and Finland in 2024.

There is no information yet on possible price changes in Europe.
