This is how Germany gets to the European Championship semi-finals

Germany beats Hungary and is second in the group. This means that the DHB selection has the cards in its own hands. But even with a defeat it could be enough for the semi-finals.
This means that Germany has now taken second place in the main round group I and is in control of progress before the last matchday. On Wednesday, national coach Alfred Gíslason’s team will face Croatia (from 8:30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). Before that, Austria meets Iceland (3:30 p.m.) and Hungary meets France (6:00 p.m.).
This is how Germany gets to the European Championship semi-finals
The starting position: France (eight points) is definitely the group winner and will face Sweden in the semi-finals. Germany follows with five points and has the advantage over Hungary in a direct duel. Hungary and Austria each have four points. Iceland (two points) and Croatia (one point) have already been eliminated.
If you advance, the direct comparison and then the goal difference will determine the points.
Four scenarios – The German team reaches the semi-finals if they…:
- … wins their game against Croatia.
- … it draws and Austria loses to Iceland, draws or doesn’t win by at least eleven goals.
- …she loses, Austria loses against Iceland and Hungary doesn’t win against France.
- …she loses by less than ten points, Austria only draws against Iceland and Hungary doesn’t win against France.
In scenarios two and four, it should also be noted that Germany currently has a ten-goal advantage over Austria. Therefore, that can ultimately be enough, as long as Germany has more offensive goals than Austria.
Should Germany finish second in the group, top favorite Denmark would wait in the semi-finals. A difficult opponent for the DHB selection.
