The German rowers won two gold medals at the European Championships in Plowdiw. On Sunday it continues (from 10 a.m. in the livestream).
While Fabio Kress secured one place on Saturday (May 31, 2025) in a light men-one place, the duo Valentin Luz and Kathrin Marchand prevailed in the Paralympic Mixed Doppelweier. For the German Rowing Association (DRV) it was the first medals in Bulgaria.
“I’m very, very grateful”
“It’s great, but I’m totally exhausted”said Kress, who reached the goal in a highly dramatic race just in front of the Turk Halil Kaan Koroglu: “Last year I moved to another city in October and actually wanted to stop. But then it turned out that the training went pretty well next to my studies, so I decided to continue. I am very, very grateful that I have the opportunity to run here.”
Double two dominates
Shortly before, Luz and Marchand had dominated their races in the double two, the lead over the team from Great Britain was almost six seconds. “We drove a very good race”, said Luz.
The European Championship ends on Sunday in Plowdiw. In the end, among other things, the newly formed Germany-Echter wants to confirm his strong appearance from the lead won and drive for gold (11:28 a.m.).
