Before the semifinals against France, national soccer player Sara Däbritz remembers a memorable knockout game against her upcoming opponents at the European Championships in England.
At the 2015 World Cup in Canada, the DFB women – at that time with Däbritz – only prevailed against the French after a penalty shoot-out in the quarter-finals. “I think that was a super exciting game, a cool experience for us,” said Däbritz. She came on for today’s captain Alexandra Popp. Germany then lost in the semi-finals to eventual world champions USA and in the match for third place to England.
“They will face a very motivated German team with the big goal of reaching the final,” promised Däbritz before the game against the French on July 27 (9 p.m. CEST/ZDF and DAZN) in Milton Keynes. The winner meets the winner of the game between hosts England and Sweden on Tuesday in next Sunday’s final at Wembley Stadium.
After three years at Paris Saint-Germain, Däbritz switched to Champions League winners Olympique Lyon this summer. “I like the coziness there. I feel very comfortable in France and the food is delicious too,” said the former Bundesliga player for SC Freiburg and FC Bayern Munich. Regarding her French language skills, she said: “Most of the time I understand everything, but sometimes I don’t.”
