Double damper for the German curling men: The team around Skip Sixten Totzek lost to two direct competitors at the European Championships in Östersund, Sweden on Tuesday for the semi-finals.
First, Germany lost 4:11 against Turkey, followed in the evening by a 3:8 defeat against hosts Sweden.
The success saw Sweden pass the German selection and is fourth together with Turkey, who beat Denmark 6-1 in the evening.
Germany slipped to sixth with 3-4 wins and need to win their remaining two games to keep a chance of a place in the semifinals. The teams from Scotland and Italy have already been determined as semi-finalists.
Meanwhile, the women of the German Curling Association (DCV) were able to work their way up to shared third place. Skip Daniela Jentsch and her team quickly defeated Latvia 10:3.
The DCV team has a 4-3 record and is tied for third place with Italy, Norway, Sweden and Turkey. Switzerland and Denmark have already qualified for the semifinals.
Only the four best teams from the two fields of ten reach the semi-finals. Among other things, the title fights serve as qualification for the 2023 World Cup in Ottawa (April 1 to 9).
