According to Joti Chatzialexiou, the German footballers can also be role models for the men’s national team with their style of play at the European Championship.
“The way they act on the pitch is exactly the style of play that we want and that I also give to the national team as a guideline,” said the head of national teams at the German Football Association in the team quarters of the DFB Women at Watford.
“So I’m immensely proud that they’re doing it this way and also very proud of the coaching team,” said Chatzialexiou. The selection of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg convinced at the European Championships in England with a lot of team spirit, inner conviction, robustness and clear tactics and will play against England for the title on Sunday (6 p.m. CEST/ARD and DAZN) at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Chatzialexiou reported that Antonio Di Salvo, coach of the German U21 men, contacted him with the words: “You, Joti, Obi was born in 2001. Isn’t she eligible to play for the U21?” Di Salvo was referring to defensive midfielder Lena Oberdorf from VfL Wolfsburg. “The way she played – he said he would call her up straight away,” said Chatzialexiou, 46, smiling.
