EM 2024: UEFA awards final to Berlin

The final of the European Championship 2024 will be held in Berlin. This was decided by the Executive Committee of the European Football Union UEFA.

Accordingly, the capital prevailed for the final on July 14, 2024 against the Allianz Arena in Munich, where the opening game will be kicked off exactly one month before instead.

The 51 games were distributed quite evenly among the ten venues that had already been determined. Most encounters take place in Berlin, Dortmund and Munich with six each, while Gelsenkirchen and Leipzig got the fewest games with four each. Five games will be hosted by Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne and Stuttgart.

For reasons of sustainability, the venues were divided into three clusters. The north/northeast zone includes Berlin, Hamburg and Leipzig, then the west with Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne and the south with Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart. In each group there are only games in two clusters to reduce travel distances.

With a capacity of a good 70,000, most spectators are allowed to go to the Berlin Olympic Stadium at the European Championships. In the actually larger arenas in Dortmund and Munich, only a good 60,000 fans are allowed due to the restriction on seats. Very few supporters can go to Düsseldorf, Cologne and Leipzig with around 46,000 seats.
