Andra among the most anticipated films of the last Cannes Film Festival. The film will be released on June 22 in Italy Elvisdirected by the visionary director Baz Luhrmann, promises to immerse the viewer in the glamor and aesthetics of the 1950s and 1960s. The tale of the tormented life of the king of rock ‘n’ roll, played by Austin Butleralso goes through the clothes and the costumes of the film, signed Prada And Miu Miu. Thus, the already fruitful collaboration between the stylist Miuccia Prada and Luhrmann is renewed, synonymous with exquisite beauty and dreamy universes.
The costumes of the film Elvis signed Prada
Together with director Baz Luhrmann and Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, Miuccia Prada designed the costumes for the film, which include custom dresses And archive items revisited. Retracing the life and music of Elvis Presley was an opportunity to celebrate his iconic style and that of an entire era. It is the silhouettes and shapes, immediately recognizable, that tell that historical moment, but the costumes are also able to create a bridge with the present, thus becoming contemporary.
Starting from studying the sources of Elvis and Priscilla’s clothes, Prada and Miu Miu looked for matches in their archives, giving shape to new creations for the film Elvis. Prada has always boasted the twentieth century as a primary source of inspiration, focusing in particular on the cultural panorama of the time, animated by a revolutionary spirit. Miu Miu also often explored and reinterpreted the Zeitgeist of those years. For this, the figure of Priscilla Presley she seemed perfectly in line with Miu Miu’s aesthetic: feminine, romantic, rebellious and dreamy.
Luhrmann and Prada, a winning combination
It is not the first time that Miuccia Prada and Baz Luhrmann find themselves working together. Always accompanied by costume designer Catherine Martine, the Italian designer and the Australian director had already joined forces for two other films: The Great Gatsbyreleased in 2013, and Romeo + Julietfrom 1996, for which they dedicated themselves to the wardrobe of the character played by Leonardo Dicaprio.
The leitmotiv more evident than the joint venture between Prada and Luhrmann is the desire to immerse oneself in distant eras, very far from the present, but still capable of influencing it. The 1920s of the famous novel by Francis Scott Fitzgerald were an opportunity to dare, experimenting with diamonds, necklines, furs, feathers, fringes and everything that could symbolize the high society of the time.
As only great cinema can do, it is time to immerse yourself in another era. That of Elvis Presley, with backcombed hair and black eyeliner. To dream again.
