Elvira Öberg wants to put disappointment behind her

Elvira Öberg is traveling to the 2024 Biathlon World Cup as a contender for medals. The Olympic champion also wants to forget the disappointment of last year in Nove Mesto.

“It can’t get much worse than last year anyway,” Öberg revealed to the Swedish TV station “SVT”.

Review: The 24-year-old also traveled to the Biathlon World Cup last winter as one of the favorites. But in Oberhof a stubborn illness finally started to bother her. Öberg ultimately missed three races completely. In the end, the Scandinavian only won the bronze medal with the Swedish relay team.

Everything should be different in Nove Mesto. “Now I’m starting this World Cup knowing what I’m capable of and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Öberg, looking ahead to the upcoming biathlon festival in the Czech Republic.

The ski hunter added: “I think it’s going to be an incredible experience. I have all the potential to do well and I’m really taking that with me. It actually gives me a lot of confidence.”

So far one victory in the biathlon winter 2023/24

Öberg currently ranks fifth in the overall World Cup with 602 points behind Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (719), Justine Braisaz-Bouchet (689), Lisa Vittozzi (671) and Julia Simon (662), making her the best athlete from the Swedish team.

Öberg celebrated her only victory so far this biathlon winter in the pursuit of Hochfilzen in mid-December. Now the 2022 Olympic relay champion wants to win precious metal at the World Championships in Nove Mesto (February 7th to 18th).
