His song “Guiding Light” turns ten years old and is getting an anniversary refresh.
“Guiding Light” by Foy Vance was first released on his 2013 album JOY OF NOTHING. The singer was already supported there by his friend Ed Sheeran and that’s how it should be now on the tenth anniversary of the track. Together with him, Elton John and Keith Urban, the song is being re-released as an “Anniversary Edition”. It will be released on November 16th via Ed Sheeran’s label Gingerbread Man Records.
“Guiding Light” as a safe place
To celebrate the anniversary, Foy Vance remembers the time when “Guiding Light” was released and says in a press release: “When I “Guiding Light” wrote, I felt lost due to the loss of family, friendships and sanity in my life. The music lit up the darkness.” He added: “‘Guiding Light’ is the person or thing that takes you back to a safe place, a place where you can lick your wounds and recover. Seeing this song resonate with so many people over the years has truly been a beautiful thing.”
In addition to the release of “Guiding Light (Anniversary Edition)” itself, Vance also published a video on his YoTtube channel in which people tell their personal “Guiding Light” story. He writes: “Thank you all for being my guiding light and sharing these phenomenal stories.”
Foy Vance and Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran had already met Foy Vance in 2006 and has always been enthusiastic about him and his music ever since. In 2015, Vance signed with Gingerbread Man Records and has since released his albums THE WILD SWAN’ and SIGNS OF LIFE. Sheeran said: “Foy has always been an artist I have admired since I met him in 2006. His vocals will blow you away and I can’t wait for you all to hear the record.”
The two also worked together on Ed Sheeran’s songs “Galway Girl” and “The Hills of Aberfeldy”.
