Elon Musk warned on comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast on Tuesday that if artificial intelligence were harnessed to work only and only with the best of our planet in mind, the end result could be the extinction of humanity.
– If [tekoäly] start to think that people are evil, it is a natural conclusion then that people should die, Musk stated.
Director of global communications at the technology company Meta Nick Glegg responded to Musk by stating that “speculative and futuristic views” like this distract attention from the acute problems related to artificial intelligence.
A significant declaration at the summit
Musk will attend a summit on artificial intelligence security threats in the UK this week, where he is also scheduled to meet with the country’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The summit will also be attended by, for example, US Vice President Kamala Harris and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
At the meeting, an agreement was reached on Tuesday between the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and China, among others, on how the security risks of artificial intelligence will be controlled.
In the paper called the Bletchley Declaration, common rules of the game have been agreed upon to curb the risks of artificial intelligence that is more advanced than the current one.
“The only way”
UK Minister for Technology Michelle Donelan welcomed the agreement, which he says marks the beginning of a global conversation that takes the risks of artificial intelligence seriously.
– This declaration confirms the need to discuss these risks. It’s the only way to safely access the incredible possibilities offered by artificial intelligence, Donelan said.
