‘Elon Musk is radically transphobic’

Claudia de Breij has really had it. The comedian already threatened to do so, but is now putting her money where her mouth is: she is immediately leaving X, the former Twitter. “Elon Musk? Bah!”

It is still by far the most important social medium for journalists and opinion makers: X, the former Twitter. When multi-billionaire Elon Musk started to hold sway there, many prominent figures threatened to switch to lesser-known alternatives. Some did so, but they often returned.

Claudia leaves

The reason is obvious: alternatives are only interesting if enough people are active there, and therefore the commonly used X remains the dominant party. Yet Claudia de Breij has now really had it. The comedian and presenter no longer feels at home on the social medium and closes the door behind her.

Claudia hopes that others will also make the switch. “I had a really nice time here, and many times more. But it’s time to pull the plug. Check Elon Musk’s timeline and you will see that you have become part of a radical right-wing transphobic platform. I am gone. See you on Instagram or bluesky,” she wrote in a message X.

Mean comments

Claudia’s message provokes many mean reactions. “In December she went to Mastodon. This is tiring,” sneers journalist Bas Paternotte.

A certain Mr. Jeroen: “Announcing that with a lot of fanfare… ‘Stop me’, that idea. Man, just leave. No one minds…”

And Sebastiaan: “Goodbye and we will not meet on the channels you suggested.”

Disguised Nazis

Claudia’s departure comes as no surprise. She already sorted it out last week: “Because this platform (Twitter, subsequently X) will soon turn into a place of disguised Nazis for disguised Nazis, I already have a place on Bluesky.”

“No idea if it will be as fun as Twitter at its best, but hey.”
