Billionaire Elon Musk is now the most followed person on Twitter. Musk has surpassed the number of followers of former US President Barack Obama, who has held the top spot since 2020.

Musk has 133.1 million Twitter followers compared to Obama’s 133.0 million.

The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Musk’s rise to the number one Twitter platform. Guinness notes that about one in three active Twitter users appear to be following Musk’s account.

Musk, who bought Twitter last year for $44 billion, crossed the 100 million follower mark last June. The number has continued to grow since then, no doubt also driven by the purchase of the social platform. Since buying Twitter, Musk has tweeted an average of more than 25 times a day.

Musk also holds another, albeit less flattering, record: earlier this year he was awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest loss of personal wealth in history when Twitter’s value collapsed under him. Musk has admitted that Twitter’s value has fallen to half of its purchase price.
