Elon Musk and Twitter: half the employees laid off

H.recently acquired the platform for $ 44 billion. Now Elon Musk plans to revolutionize Twitter and its rules. An example of this? He decided to lay off 3700 people (represent about half of the social media company’s workforce). A way, for him, to reduce the costs of the company. But that, of course, he is causing a lot of discussion. Also for the ways in which this is happening …

The mass sacking of Elon Musk begins today

He had announced it and starting today, Friday 4 November, the process of mass layoffs of about half of the Twitter workforce begins. In these hours, in fact, they will lose their employment in the society of the little blue bird 3700 people. Twitter currently has 7,500 employees.

This decision was announced as an attempt by Elon Musk to cut costs. The Tesla entrepreneur also explained that he plans to reverse the company’s existing policy on remote working. Indeed, will ask its employees to come to the office. There will be some exceptions but the war on smart-working has now begun.

A letter to the employees

To announce the arrival of these new cuts to its employees, Elon Musk sent an email to some of them. It’s about a official communication in which they were asked to go home yesterday, Thursday 3 November, and not to return to the office today, Friday 4. Today, in fact, the first announced cuts become operational.

Apparently, this way of informing Twitter employees was chosen by the entrepreneur himself – among the richest in the world – together with a team of consultants. And it appears that 60 days of severance pay have been offered to workers.

Elon Musk, however, had denied an article from the New York Times in which it was communicated that he planned to fire Twitter employees before November 1so as to avoid the stock grants due that day.

Musk’s battle on the paid blue ticks

Elon Musk’s arrival on Twitter led to a great movement in the company. After the cuts to employees and to part of the management (including the former CEO, Parag Agrawal), Musk has announced the will to provide for the future a monthly fee of 8 dollars for users of the social network who intend to have the account verified, the famous “blue check”.

This would be a quota that guarantees priority in responses, mentions and searches. But also the possibility of having a stop to spam and scams and to be able to post longer videos and audios.

All this, of course, is also making people think advertisers (source of most of Twitter’s revenue). L’Oréal has decided, for example, to stop advertising on the platform.
