Ellie Lust thinks there is not enough flying shame in the Netherlands. She calls for an immediate ban on flights to European cities such as Paris and Berlin. “They just have to come out!”

Dutch celebrities are constantly calling out that cheap airline tickets and short flights should be banned, while they themselves spend an above average amount of time on the plane. Linda de Mol made the most of it; she wants to ban cheap city trips, while she herself is constantly in her private jet and her magazine offers all kinds of city trips in the meantime.

Coffee in Barcelona

Now Ellie Lust comes up with a climate plea. “Where we should actually decide not to drink coffee in Barcelona, I think that discipline is still a long way off,” says the former policewoman who would like to be a TV star in the podcast The Lion Lult On

Host Paul de Leeuw: “You mean we no longer have to take the plane to go to Barcelona for a day and a half?”

Ellie: “Yes, I think the big message I think we got is that we should take better care of our planet, because otherwise we will be confronted with these types of pandemics (corona, ed.).”

Old patterns

It bothers Ellie immensely. “I hope a lot of people learned something from that [van de pandemie]but I also hear far too often that we are reverting back to our old patterns and that flight tickets are indeed booked for a few days to a European city for a city trip.”

She continues: “I wish that on everyone, but I think when it comes to discipline, we should be a little more disciplined about that.”

‘Ban Paris!’

Co-host Hans Kesting: “You can’t take the train for a city trip, can you?!”

Ellie: “Why not?”

Hans: “Well, I’m going to answer that: because then you’ll be in the train for a long time back and forth to Barcelona. Then the weekend is already over.”

Ellie: “Yeah, but if you wanted to go to Paris or Berlin… I think those flights should just go off. That simply the train should become the alternative. And yes, then you do not go three days, but then you go five.”

Money

Hans thinks that celebrities like Ellie ignore the fact that many people have no money at all for a longer city trip or expensive train tickets. “Yeah, people don’t have money for that. Imagine you want to go to Barcelona with the family for a weekend with two children.”

Ellie: “Yes, but if you have enough money to go to Barcelona for three days, then I think the alternative is quite possible.”

Ellie herself traveled to the south of France this month to drink some wine – see below. She also took a picture there with a group of cyclists
