According to Ellemieke Vermolen, it is not a good development that people only dare to show themselves on Instagram with a good filter. We are becoming increasingly distant from reality, she says. To make a statement, she has therefore posted a photo of herself without a filter and without make-up online.
Ellemieke without filter
Ellemieke thinks it’s very brave of herself. “Tonight I’m going to talk in Shownieuws about why we wear make-up, the pressure of the ideal image and the filters of Instagram. This photo has no filter and I’m not wearing any makeup! The real me ?”, she writes with the photo.
Then she posts a photo with a filter. “To be honest, I also prefer to swipe left once for the Paris filter. Just a little fresher as you can see but not the reality. Insecurity?”

Without a filter, but with filler, notes juice queen Yvonne Coldeweijer. She thinks it’s funny that Ellemieke pretends she’s completely natural without make-up, while her lower lip barely fits the picture.
Yvonne: “Without a filter but with a nice filler. That’s not ‘the real me’ me, is it Ellemiek ?.”
Beauty
Ellemieke couldn’t stop talking at the Shownieuws desk in the evening about her aversion to Instagram culture. “The beauty really comes from within rather than what we put on it. Especially in the time of all those filters on Instagram. To be honest, I also participate a little, but not too much.”
She continues: “You just see those images on Instagram and sometimes I really think, why is this necessary? It is so soulless and there is no feeling in it anymore.”
