Buckingham Palace has yet to offer details about the queen’s state funeral, scheduled for about ten days.
British Prime Minister Liz Truss was informed of the death of Elizabeth II at 3:30 p.m. (local time)two hours before Buckingham Palace officially announced the death, an official Downing Street spokesman revealed to the media on Thursday.
Truss, who last Tuesday held an audience with the monarch to officially assume the head of government, received the news through his cabinet secretary, Simon Casethe highest official of the Executive.
The Prime Minister delivered a speech to the nation in front of her official residence in London shortly after 6:00 p.m. (local time), after which he conversed with the new king, Carlos III, and has summoned his cabinet of ministers to meet at 9:00 p.m. (local time).
Buckingham Palace must still offer details about the queen’s state funeral, scheduled for about ten days, and the rest of the acts and ceremonies that will take place throughout the country.
