The organizer threw Elina Tervo out of the Croatian Lidl. In an interview with Iltalehti, Tervo wants to take a stand on unfair treatment.
Elina Tervo
Content producer Elina Tervo, 36, got into a nasty situation at Lidl in Croatia. The supervisor threw Tervo, known as a fitness model and host, out of the store for wearing too little.
Tervo spoke about the incident for the first time in the stories section of Instagram. In an interview with Iltalehti, he tells what happened in the situation and how he reacted to it.
– It was a really absurd situation. I came from a bike trip and thought I would go to Lidl for a grocery store. I was on the coffee shelf when the security guard came to stand next to me. I thought I had to put the backpack somewhere, but the orderly supervisor said to put on your clothes before entering the store.
Elina describes that she was wearing high-waisted fabric shorts and a lacy top and sneakers. They were quite ordinary summer clothes, in which even Finns enjoy themselves in the summer. The clothes in question were too little for the organizer.
– I said I have clothes on. He whined that there is not enough. We argued for a while until I walked out of the store. The guard followed to make sure I left. I didn’t buy the groceries for the week.
What surprises him the most about the situation is why he was thrown out of the store, but the shirtless teenage boys were allowed to go there without any problems. In Tervo’s opinion, the fact that the area in question is famous for its nudist beaches was also contradictory in the shop incident.
– I understand if I had behaved provocatively or if I had been drunk. I was in normal clothes and not in a bikini or naked.
An individual case
Tervo says that he has not encountered a similar situation or comment before. He is used to all kinds of feedback, especially on social media, but Lidl’s situation made him confused.
– Black, it’s really wrong. Everyone should be treated equally regardless of gender, age and size. I get to wear the same clothes as someone else.
The others in the store were wearing the same style of clothing and they didn’t get out. Elina states that the incident was an individual case, as many local women wear, for example, elegant and small dresses.
According to Tervo, slimmer women receive less nasty comments about short clothes. She describes that a shapely woman is easily labeled as curmudgeon if she wears shorter clothes.
He has heard such comments especially on social media. However, he notices that people’s attitudes have changed. Many people no longer make nasty comments about visibility or clothing, but she receives positive feedback.
– People have turned to me. They understand what I’ve been looking for in my style for years. More people comment face to face.
Next destination
Elina has spent the last few years abroad. At the moment he is in Croatia, where he has another couple of weeks. Based on social media, Tervo’s life may seem like just a vacation, but it is not. He says that he works a lot in content production.
– I’m never on vacation, because I always do social work and it’s a full-time job. I’m always on vacation, always at work, so to speak.
Along with work, he organizes his next trip. He plans to continue traveling within Europe, but hasn’t decided where yet. The increased prices limit going to different destinations, because renting cars is expensive these days. Budgeting brings additional planning.
– I was in America for half a year and I was shocked by the prices in Europe. I got used to the American price level.
