Elina Svitolina to first final under coach Raemon Sluiter in the run-up to Roland Garros | Sport

Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina has reached the final of a WTA tournament for the first time since the start of the collaboration with coach Raemon Sluiter. The 28-year-old Svitolina qualified for the final battle in the French city of Strasbourg by beating the Frenchwoman Clara Burel 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

In March, Svitolina entered into a partnership with Sluiter, who assisted Kiki Bertens in the past and guided him to the global top ten. Svitolina has fallen back on the world ranking partly due to a childbirth. She started the tournament in Strasbourg as the world number 508. She was once third.

Svitolina will meet the Russian Anna Blinkova in the final on Saturday. She is the number 66 in the world.

The Strasbourg clay court tournament is the last preparatory tournament in the run-up to Roland Garros. There, Svitolina will face Martina Trevisan from Italy in the opening round next week.
