Actor Elina Knihtilä52, has been a professor of acting at the University of the Arts for ten years.

The spark for working with those aspiring to the field was born from the fact that Elina longed for new challenges in addition to her own acting work.

– I have been there for ten years now and it has been a really educational time for myself. Even if I had done all the roles in the world as an actor in the meantime, I probably wouldn’t have learned so much about acting. There are the best teaching colleagues, but above all the students with whom you can share it, Elina says.

The new government’s cuts have spoken in many different areas of society this fall. The interests of students have also been a big topic of conversation.

Elina has enough sympathy and understanding for students.

– I would hope that young people and students would not be the ones who are punished the most. Yes, I understand that surgery has to be done. Now it seems that they are targeting the wrong addresses.

Elina attended Teatterikorkeakoulu during the worst recession, when the student loan interest rate rose to astronomical numbers. Despite this, Elina sees the future as more challenging for today’s students.

– We didn’t have the same concerns. We thought that things would be resolved and we would survive. If you think about what kind of questions today’s youth are wrestling with, I think the circumstances are very different for them.

Elina mentions the new government’s changes as a positive thing that, according to a recent press release from the Ministry of Labor and the Economy, efforts are being made to bring back incentive funding for audiovisual productions.

– I have rarely come across such short-sighted thinking. Fortunately, it was corrected and it was realized that we were making a massive mistake. The entire av industry, but in terms of all employment and other things. It was a good decision to return it, says Elina.

New on the work front

Elina will star in a film premiering in November Grandma. The film tells the story of a Finnish family’s Christmas, which is overshadowed by the grandfather’s alcohol problem, communication problems and old quarrels. The film examines the situation from the perspective of three generations of the family.

Elina singles out the little girl in the film, who is not afraid to voice her perceptive observations.

– Young people have the future. Today’s young people are able and dare to talk about their feelings. They know how to be more open than, for example, my own generation. In this young girl in the film, we can see that communication can be of a different kind than non-confrontation.

With a partner on stage

Elina’s autumn also includes acting in the Q theater, which is currently running Some discussions about meaning a play called Elina’s co-star is her own partner Tommi Korpela, and the other co-star is her longtime good friend Pirjo Lonka.

– We are on stage in the evenings. Can’t complain, Elina laughs.

– We try to keep our mutual affairs off the stage. Although we have met on stage. Tommi is also a good colleague. I myself have such a luxury situation that my colleague Pirjo Lonka is my childhood friend and the other is my spouse. It has fun atmospheres, Elina continues.

Elina is best remembered for, among other things, her award-winning television appearance in the series Indoor air. Elina has won two Jussi awards for films Falling angels and Good boy.
