Moved from Turku to Helsinki in August Elina Kanerva is a candidate in this fall’s parish elections.
The elections will be held in November. Kanerva is a candidate for both the Töölö parish council of her own parish and the joint church council of the Helsinki parish union.
– I have received a Christian upbringing and a secure foundation from my childhood home. Religion has always been an important part of my life and it has brought security and confidence even in difficult moments.
– With my candidacy, I would like to be able to influence and promote the affairs of my own parish, especially from the point of view of children, young people and the elderly, he says.
Kanerva lives in the prestigious Etu-Töölö district in Helsinki. The home is familiar, because it was Elina’s and her late husband’s, a member of parliament Ilkka Kanervan common. Elina Kanerva wanted to move to the familiar surroundings of Helsinki, so that she could live close to her adult daughter.
“Ilka would support me”
Ilkka Kanerva, a long-time member of parliament of the coalition, who had cancer, died in the spring at home in Turku, so his wife was able to say goodbye to him in peace.
In the summer, Elina Kanerva returned to the public eye.
– I feel it is important to be in social interactions with people instead of closing myself in my home. I am sure that Ilkka would also have wished for me to continue living. He was a pro-life and positive person, and that’s what I want to be myself.
Elina Kanerva, who works as an application specialist, wonders what her spouse would say about the candidacy.
– Ilkka strongly encouraged to take on new challenges. I believe he would support my candidacy. He might also be surprised, knowing that I often prefer to be in the background. However, I now feel that I want to challenge myself and be involved in something important to me.
