Elina Gustafsson was confused by the criticism she received on social media.
Ex-boxer Elina Gustafsson got into the middle of a social media storm earlier this week. He posted pictures of his visit to a Kenyan school on his Instagram account.
In one photo, Gustafsson posed with local children. The boxer later deleted the photos because he received criticism for them.
– I deleted my feed picture, where there are pictures of Kenyan children. I fully understand that this is a problematic situation. My purpose was not to polish my own skin or make myself a savior, but to bring more awareness that helping hands are needed, Gustafsson wrote.

– I didn’t want to be the target of a social media storm until I have clarified my thoughts on the matter. I’ve been thinking all day about who can help and who, and what is the right kind of helping or is there such a thing? Gustafsson reflects in his writing.
He tells how the local children had been excitedly waiting for the meeting. Gustafsson emphasizes that he had asked for permission to film.
– For these children, this school is a lottery win, and they don’t have to pay anything for it. They are completely dependent on donations. We brought juice to the place and helped two girls with copy paper and school book fees.

The boxer says that he has received many messages emphasizing the need for help.
– The most important thing to me is, if you can’t, I’ll help. I can’t save the whole world, but if I can do something good and spread awareness about it, I’ll do it, with or without a shit storm, Gustafsson states.
