Almost immediately after the start, a leading group with Dietmar Ledegen, Siebe Bauwens, Bram Dissel, Casper van de Woude and Timo de Jong formed. However, the peloton did not let them go. A few more attempts to Maarten Verheyen, Jordy Decottignies, Baptiste Planckaert, Samuel Leroux, Hidde van Veenendaal and again Timo de Jong after 40 kilometers of course received the blessing of the large group. The six early refugees were allowed to start the two remaining local laps of 30.6 kilometers each with a pre -gift of one and a half minute in the large group. The round then that lead had shrunk to 45 seconds. With 23 kilometers ahead of the bow, Decotttignies had to go in the front. In the full final, a few riders hit the plain and with 3 kilometers to be driven, a cross was made about the early flight. In the subsequent mass sprint, Philipsen seemed to be on his way to his second victory in this Elfstedenronde. The Limburger, however, was reportered by Magnier just before the finish.
