Eleven years after the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster, Japan silently commemorates Fukushima

Japan silently commemorated the triple Fukushima disaster on Friday. Eleven years ago, one of the strongest earthquakes in the world led to a deadly tsunami, triggering a major nuclear disaster. On Friday, for the first time in Japan, no national ceremony was held in memory of the victims, as the Japanese state decided after the 10th anniversary of the disaster to no longer commemorate the victims. But, as always, a minute’s silence was observed at 2:46 PM (local time).
