The floods that hit the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna have killed at least 11 people. Two new bodies were found on Thursday. Italian authorities are evacuating more villages as a result of flooding in the Emilia-Romagna region, in the northeast of the country.

Two officials from the police prefecture and from the Ravenna administration confirmed the two new deaths. According to local media, it concerns a farming couple aged 71 and 73. They had been missing from relatives since Wednesday and were found dead in their home in Russi. They may have died of electrocution, reports the Italian news agency ANSA.

According to the latest information, 23 rivers in the region have burst their banks and authorities have recorded 280 landslides and 400 blocked roads. A total of 41 municipalities were affected by flooding.

More than 100,000 residents have already had to leave their homes. It has stopped raining since Wednesday afternoon and meteorologists expect no more significant showers on Thursday. Nevertheless, buses have been sent to evacuate residents of the municipalities of Villanova di Ravenna, Filetto and Boncalceci, because the river Lamone threatens to flood. According to the protection service, about 50,000 people are still without electricity and 100,000 people have no connection to the mobile network.

According to the authorities, the region has received as much rain in 36 hours as normally in six months. Due to the storm, the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna on the Imola circuit will also be canceled on Sunday.
