“I am only a representative of Argentine culture,” said the Argentine actress and singer Elena Roger, within the framework of the recognition he received from NEWS as one of the 10 most outstanding Argentine personalities of 2022.
“I am reaping everything that I worked from when I was 21 to 38 years old, when my first daughter was born, and also sowing again, combining my work with motherhood”, celebrates the outstanding professional who has conquered the great stages of the world, and who reopened a restored Liceo Theater (saved from demolition) with the revival of “Piaf”the musical that became the big hit of the season.
After a 2021 that established her with five nominations for the Gardel Awards for his work with Scaladrumwith whom he recorded two tribute albums to the singer-songwriter Maria Elena Walsh on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of his birth (“Like the Cicada” for adults and “El Reino del Revés” for the little ones), was added to “Entrelazados” for the Disney+ platform.
“I had a career that grew and the icing on the cake was receiving the Olivier Award (Ndr: for his leading role in the play “Piaf” in London), and my interpretation of Evita on Broadway”he explains, while highlighting having been able to work “in the two most important places in musical comedy.”
This “Piaf”, the musical by Pam Gems who directs the prestigious Jamie Lloyd and produced by Adrián Suar, It is today the jewel of the Buenos Aires theater billboard 13 years after its debut.
“Carlos Rotemberg sent me a message and told me directly that he wanted to return with ‘Piaf’ because this work was perfect to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Teatro Liceo”, says Roger, once again immersed in the skin of Edith Piaf, the Sparrow of Paris that now excites Buenos Aires.
“We are doing a ritual with this work, and that is where a lot of the emotion that some people talk about happens. This is the life of a great singer who sang wonderful music and had a special existence that touched many people. She came out of absolute poverty and became the highest paid singer in the world, she had her tragedies in her life and that also makes her very particular ”, says Roger, who lives each character with the intensity of great artists.
