Electronics chain BCC files for bankruptcy, store in Hoogeveen open for the time being

Electronics chain BCC, with a branch in Hoogeveen, has filed for bankruptcy, the electronics chain confirmed to the ANP news agency.

The chain already applied for a deferment of payment last week, saying it was due to ‘continued and increasingly difficult market conditions’. BCC has sixty branches with more than 1,100 employees.

The shops and online stores will remain open for the time being. The curators are looking for a restart with BCC. It is not clear how likely this is to happen. The curators, previously the administrators of the electronics chain, were not yet available.

CEO Caspar Klinkhamer announced a week ago that BCC was under ‘increasing pressure’. Under him, the company had already taken measures to improve its financial position. But despite that, ‘we have concluded that this is not enough and we cannot continue in this way’.

BCC is not the only chain that is in dire straits. Lately, one name after another seems to be getting into trouble on the high street. For example, earlier this year the clothing store chains Score and Chasin’ went bankrupt, as did Scotch & Soda and several dozen franchise stores of Vero Moda, Vila and Pieces.
