Elections results: Sterk Meppel wins seat and few changes Westerveld

The first results of the municipal elections in Drenthe are known. Hoogeveen was the first municipality to announce the results just after 11 p.m. These are provisional results after all votes have been counted. Four days after the election, the municipal central electoral committee determines the result, based on the results of the polling stations.

Westerveld

Sustainable Strong Westerveld is the winner in Westerveld. The party wins one seat and comes to four seats. Progressive Westerveld joins the council with three members. The party lost a seat recently, because D66 member Anke Oosterhuis left the collaboration. Progressive will therefore return the same size after today and D66 has also managed to keep the seat.

The VVD remains on the council with three seats, IC lost one seat and ends in two. The CDA and the PvdA also keep their two seats.

Meppel

Sterk Meppel has one more seat in Meppel, the largest party rises to seven seats. The two parties with which Sterk Meppel is in the coalition, lose on the other hand: VVD loses one and comes to four. The CDA also lost a seat and went from four to three. The PvdA, ChristenUnie and SP remain on tee seats. D66 is the other winner in Meppel, it doubles the number of seats and comes to two. GroenLinks remains a one-man faction on the council.

Hoogeveen

In Hoogeveen, the PvdA and Forum for Democracy are the big winners. The PvdA rises from two to five seats on the council. Newcomer Forum of Democracy has two seats on the council. IC remains the largest with seven seats, despite losing one. CDA (6), VVD (3), SP (2) and D66 (1) lose one seat. ChristenUnie remains on three seats, GroenLinks and the SGP retain their only seat.

“I have bruises from the blows I received on my shoulders,” jokes Stan van Eck of the Hoogeveen PvdA about the election results. “I am very happy, from 2 to 5 seats is unimaginable. I would not have dared to dream that. But it is right, I see this as a reward for the efforts of the current group.”
