The results of the municipal elections in Drenthe are known. Hoogeveen was the first municipality to announce the results just after 11 p.m. These are provisional results after all votes have been counted. Four days after the election, the municipal central electoral committee determines the result, based on the results of the polling stations.

City party PLOP has received the most votes in the municipality of Assen, good for 5 seats. That is one seat gain from the previous election. ChristenUnie already had 5 seats and remains on that number. The big winner is Assen Central. The new party of former PvdA alderman Albert Smit also wins 5 seats from scratch.
The VVD, PvdA and GroenLinks all lose a seat and end in 3. D66 remains stable at the same number. The CDA, SP and 50PLUS all give up a seat and come to 2.
“We are very happy, this is great. A reward for what we have done in the council in recent years,” says Henk Santing, leader of PLOP, about the leading position of his party. “Local has got its place in Assen today.”
“It is up to the people on our list, they have a very good following,” party leader Albert Smit explains the success of Assen Central. “It will not be easy to form a good coalition, but we are going for it. We are receptive to any combination.”
Coevorden
Interests Outer Area Coevorden (BBC2014) remains the largest in the municipality of Coevorden. The party gains one seat and ends up at 10. The VVD and the PvdA both remain stuck at 4 seats. Progressive Accord Coevorden (PAC) has gained an additional seat and comes to a total of 3, the same as the CDA.
Emmen
Party for Wakker Emmen, the largest party can join the next four years with four extra councilors. The party rises to 15 seats. The PvdA remains the second party, it holds 7 seats.
Newcomer Forum for Democracy has secured a seat. CDA has to give up one seat and is the third party with 4 seats. The PVV (2) also lost a seat, just like D66 (1). The other parties remain the same size. GOLD! had two seats in the city council, but did not participate in the elections.
“Fantastic”, Wakker Emmen’s party leader René van der Weide summarizes the win of his party. “People see that local parties have influence and can participate in governance. We have been able to achieve 80 percent of our spearheads in the past period. So we achieve real results.”
North field
Municipal interests in Noordenveld wins a seat. The party is now by far the largest party with 10 seats. LGN follows with 4 seats. This local party also wins a seat. PvdA and CDA are relinquishing seats. PvdA goes to 2 and CDA to 1. The other parties keep their seats.
The two local parties in Noordenveld are the only parties to receive a higher percentage of votes than four years ago. ChristenUnie received exactly the same percentage of votes.
The Wolden
Municipal interests in De Wolden is again the largest. The party even rises to 9 seats (+1). Coalition partner VVD has just halved, it drops to 2 seats. The other VVD seat will end up with GroenLinks, which means that the party will have 2 seats on the council. CDA (3) remains the same. D66, PvdA and ChristenUnie remain one-man factions.
Tynaarlo
Liveable Tynaarlo has an extra seat and comes to 5. The party is therefore the largest in the municipality of Tynaarlo. The biggest win is for Tynaarlo Nu. Richard Aeilkema’s new party won 3 seats. The VVD, GroenLinks, D66 and the PvdA also arrive at the same number.
Borger-Odoorn
The classrooms are again the largest in Borger-Odoorn. Despite a seat loss, IC became the largest group, with 7 council members. The lost seat will remain in local ownership, because Leefbaar Borger-Odoorn will increase to 3 seats. The other parties remain the same size.
Central Drenthe
In Midden-Drenthe, it is the local parties that take the same number of seats, namely 5. Municipal Interests – BBBondgenoot did get more votes than Municipal Interests Smilde-Beilen-Westerbork, but both get 2 more seats. This is at the expense of the VVD and the CDA, which both drop to 3. The PvdA retains 4 seats, D66, ChristenUnie and GroenLinks remain active with one seat. The two local parties in the municipality were the fourth and fifth parties in the municipality and have now become the largest and second largest in one fell swoop.
Aa and Hunze
IC remains the largest party in Aa and Hunze, but loses one seat. The party goes from 10 to 9 seats. The VVD also loses a seat and goes from 4 to 3. This puts the VVD on a par with PvdA and GroenLinks. The latter party wins a seat.
VVD is still the second party in terms of votes with 16.6 percent. GroenLinks surpasses the PvdA in this. D66 goes from 1 to 2 seats. The CDA remains stuck in one seat.
Westerveld
Sustainable Strong Westerveld is the winner in Westerveld. The party wins a seat and comes in 4. Progressive Westerveld joins the council with 3 members. The party lost a seat recently, because D66 member Anke Oosterhuis left the collaboration. Progressive will therefore return the same size after today and D66 has also managed to keep the seat.
The VVD will remain on the council with 3 seats, Municipal Interests lost one seat and ends in 2. The CDA and the PvdA also keep their 2 seats.
Meppel
Sterk Meppel has one more seat in Meppel, the largest party rises to 7 seats. The 2 parties with which Sterk Meppel is in the coalition lose on the other hand: VVD loses one and takes 4. The CDA also loses a seat and goes from 4 to 3. The PvdA, ChristenUnie and SP remain on 2 seats. D66 is the other winner in Meppel, it doubles the number of seats and comes to 2. GroenLinks remains a one-man faction in the council.
“It makes me very proud”, responds Elisabeth Bakkenes of Sterk Meppel. “We are of course a real action party and have been both inside and outside the college. I am very proud of the fact that we have been such a stable factor over the past 4 years and have been able to achieve many things. working hard for the next 4 years.”
Hoogeveen
In Hoogeveen, the PvdA and Forum for Democracy are the big winners. The PvdA increases from 2 to 5 seats in the council. Newcomer Forum of Democracy comes with 2 seats on the council. IC remains the largest with 7 seats, despite losing one. CDA (6), VVD (3), SP (2) and D66 (1) lose one seat. ChristenUnie remains on 3 seats, GroenLinks and the SGP keep their only seat.
“I have bruises from the blows I received on my shoulders,” jokes Stan van Eck of the Hoogeveen PvdA about the election results. “I am very happy, from 2 to 5 seats is unimaginable. I would not have dared to dream that. But it is right, I see this as a reward for the efforts of the current group.”
