The elections to the House of Representatives will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. This has been decided by the cabinet on the proposal of Minister Bruins Slot of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. When choosing this date, the preparation time for political parties, the feasibility for municipalities and the preparations by the Electoral Council were taken into account.
The government has chosen this date because of the weighty importance of feasibility and careful organization of this election, with short preparation time. The preparation time for a regularly scheduled election is approximately 9 months. An early parliamentary election must be organized in about half of this time.
Minister Bruins Slot: “Elections are the foundation of our democracy. Organizing reliable and careful elections demands a lot from municipalities that organize the elections. Volunteers and municipal officials at polling places are invaluable. This became apparent once again during the provincial and water board elections of March 15, 2023. Thousands of volunteers are also needed for the upcoming parliamentary elections, who can register with the municipality in the coming weeks. My commitment is to ensure that the election process runs as smoothly as possible, together with the VNG, the NVVB and the Electoral Council.”
Based on the date of November 22, 2023, according to the Electoral Act, the day of nomination will take place on Monday, October 9, 2023.
