Elections 23J | Sánchez places his chief of staff on the list for Congress for Madrid

Pedro Sánchez has closed the list to Congress for Madrid with the presence of his chief of staff, Oscar Lopezin seventh place, which means that three high-ranking officials from Moncloa, from its closest nucleus, will go on the candidacies for the general elections. Lopez by Madrid; Anthony Hernandodeputy director of the president’s cabinet, will be the headliner for Almería, and Paco SalazarGeneral Secretary for Strategic Planning, will go four through Seville.

Óscar López may remain in his position but Hernando and Salazar will have to be dismissed in the Council of Ministers next Tuesday. The electoral law allows members of the government and secretaries of state – the rank of the chief of staff of the Presidency – to run for elections, but not undersecretaries or general directors. And the same happens with the Director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González, who is tenth in the candidacy for Madrid and who must leave his position after only two months, since he took office. In the same circumstances is the Government delegate in Galicia, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, with the same time in that position.

His presence in the candidacies reveals a lack of confidence in the PSOE’s options in the general elections on July 23, because, as happens with the ministers, if they do not continue in the Government, they thus ensure four years in the Lower House . Although in all five it coincides that they are people linked to the organization -not high officials of the Administration-, who have held very important positions in the party.

Sánchez will be accompanied in the candidacy for Madrid by Teresa Ribera (vice president and minister of Ecological Transition) of two; Félix Bolaños (Presidency) of three; Margarita Robles (Defense) of four and José Manuel Albares (Foreigners) in fifth place. The sixth place will correspond to the president of the party, Cristina Narbona, who now occupies the first vice presidency of the Senate: the seventh to Óscar López; the eighth to Isaura Leal, general secretary of the parliamentary group in Congress; the ninth to Rafa Simancas, Secretary of State for Relations with the Courts – he does not have to cease either – and the tenth to the director of the Civil Guard.
