Election signs will be placed in the municipality of Westerwolde on Thursday and Friday. Not the usual number of 23 but 12.
The city council approved that number during a special meeting on Wednesday.
Deprecated
The mayor and aldermen actually did not want to put up signs on which the posters could be pasted before the House of Representatives elections on November 22. They stated that the 23 signs that have been used for years are outdated and that the government is not making additional money available for the organization of this election with which new ones can be purchased or made.
Assignment to b and w
No signs this time and buy new ones for the European election next year, that’s how b and w wanted it. But the council members did not like that. They drew up a motion in which b and w are instructed to still place election signs. And that motion was on the table during that special meeting. The council members once again made it clear that it is not possible for traditional posters to hang in every municipality, but not in Westerwolde.
Mayor Jaap Velema met the council members and said that twelve signs are still reasonably usable and storm-resistant. “And we can deploy these well-distributed throughout the municipality in the coming days.”
The politicians agreed to this. It was also agreed that in the longer term Westerwolde will probably switch to the use of digital signs.
