Election Miss Belgium disrupted. Police comb the entire Plopsatheater and thwart an attack

After a turbulent week, with a serious traffic accident for the outgoing Miss Belgium, Chayenne Van Aarle, her successor will be elected tonight. But it is not going smoothly.

Attack foiled

When our journalist arrives at the scene at half past seven, he finds that the police are sweeping the entire room. This is mainly done as a precaution. All the public is waiting outside. The reason is serious: a man was apparently planning to commit an attack there. The federal prosecutor’s office confirms that the police succeeded in foiling that possible attack. The man was arrested and was in possession of a firearm. A car with a firearm was also found in the vicinity of the Plopsatheater, in the parking lot. (Read more below the photo)

Car towed away

The car of the perpetrator, a man from Limburg, was towed away a little later, around half past eight. It is a rented car. A bulletproof vest was also in the car. The man himself was already arrested in the late afternoon.

Fairly quiet evacuation

We spoke, among other things, with the hairdresser of the Misskandidates. He testifies to the fact that there was some panic backstage when the news became known. He too was sent out. The public also testifies that they were asked to leave the room. That all went quite smoothly. People are still waiting outside at 8:30 AM. Due to the thwarted attack, the show could not start at the scheduled time and has already been postponed by at least an hour. The 32 Misskandidates also had to leave the hall and are waiting outside the hall for news.
