Elderly woman helps a thirsty man and is robbed in her own home

An elderly woman was attacked in her home on Johannes Vermeerlaan in Helmond on Saturday afternoon. She had opened her door because of the heat. A robber then seized his chance.

The man walked in and asked the woman if he could have a drink. When she wanted to fetch it for him, he collected his booty. Police are not disclosing what exactly he took.

When the robber then wanted to flee, the woman had just returned. He pushed her aside and took off. “A kind of chat trick,” says a police spokesman. “That man distracts the resident with an excuse and quickly strikes. Very low to the ground.”

Shortly after the robbery, the police distributed a bugernet report calling for the man to be on the lookout. So far this has yielded nothing. It concerns a white man in his thirties. He also has short, dark blond hair and wears a green shirt, jeans and a blue shoulder bag. He would have left on a bicycle. Police have not yet revealed why the man is wanted.
