Elderly people stuck again due to broken elevators: ‘A woman was completely in a panic’

It hit the Parkzicht flat in Tilburg again on Sunday afternoon: once again, both lifts in the building were out of order. With all its consequences. For example, very elderly residents are forced to wait for hours in the heat until they can go upstairs. According to WonenBreburg, the warm weather is the culprit. “We find this very annoying.”

They are not new problems. In fact, a year ago Omroep Brabant already wrote about the persistent malfunctions in the building. Last week, owner WonenBreburg promised to get better, after new complaints from residents. At least one of the elevators, which are currently being modernized, should work in the near future.

And this weekend there actually seemed to be light on the horizon. Both elevators in the building were fixed. Until Sunday afternoon around four o’clock in the afternoon fate struck again. The elevator got stuck between the eleventh and twelfth floors, so residents could only go up and down via the stairs. And that is a considerable, if not impossible, task for many of them.

“There were certainly about 18 residents waiting downstairs in the large hall,” says 74-year-old Elly Stockermans. “Well, it is completely made of glass, so it got very hot. I just spoke to a woman of about 75 years old. She was completely panicked. She recently had a pulmonary embolism and was now very stuffy due to the heat. It is so sad.”

“I didn’t want to go down, but I still had to walk my dog.”

To make the wait a bit more bearable, Elly has now removed some chairs from her storage room. “I didn’t want to go down at first, because I also suffer from my health. But at some point I had to walk my dog. So I grabbed my puffer and went on the road.”

It now seems that the elevator can make some trips up and down again in dribs and drabs. But how reliable that is, Elly dare not say. “He suddenly came down from twelve high. Then some people went up, but a little later everything came to a standstill.”

WonenBreburg could not be reached for a response on Sunday evening, but rather hung a letter in the building. The housing corporation then writes that due to the warm weather, several lifts in Tilburg have unfortunately not been working properly in recent days, including those in Parkzicht.

The organization also emphasizes that technical service provider RECO can always be called in for help in the event of an emergency. Employees of that company will then help to get to the top.
