Elderly injured in an accident with bus Fluitenberg

Several people were injured in an accident in Fluitenberg at the end of the morning. A car and a coach collided with each other. There were 45 elderly people on the bus. Five of them were slightly injured, a spokesperson for the Drenthe Security Region (VRD) reported. Two people were taken to hospital: one someone who was on the bus and the driver of the car.

The accident happened on Fluitenbergseweg. Several emergency services, including the trauma helicopter, came out to provide assistance. The driver had to be removed from her car by firefighters. She was then taken away by ambulance.

The elderly were on their way to the Schildhoeve in Fluitenberg by bus. It is not yet known how the accident could have happened. According to the spokeswoman, the slightly injured have headaches, neck complaints and abrasions. They are checked by paramedics. The group was accommodated at a catering facility.

It concerns residents of the Wolfsbos and De Kaap locations of the Jannes van der Sleedenhuis. “They will be returned to their apartments as soon as possible. Victim assistance has been arranged at the locations,” says director Roeli Mossel of NNCZ, which includes both care centers. According to her, the elderly are very frightened. This concerns elderly people who lived fairly independently, but also residents of a nursing ward.

The website of NNCZ states an emergency number, which concerned relatives can call with questions. The elderly were on their way to the Schildhoeve because they were offered dinner by the Rotary in Hoogeveen. This was organized together with the Roelof van Echten College. Pupils from that secondary school in Hoogeveen would serve the elderly.
