Elderly couple ends up in the canal with their car

The accident took place at the intersection of the Pijpeweg and the Legeweg between Sint-Kruis and Lapbreeke in Damme. The two cars just missed colliding, but the vehicle driving towards Sint-Kruis did end up in the canal. The driver and passenger were unable to get out of the vehicle on their own and were freed by the fire brigade.

The people were of older age and they were taken to hospital for a check-up. The occupants of the other car were not injured. The accident caused some disruption and traffic had to pass alternately.
