El Salvador extends state of emergency for 30 days to end gang violence

The unicameral parliament of the Central American country of El Salvador on Wednesday extended the state of emergency by one month to contain the deadly gang violence. The state of emergency was passed on March 27 and extended for the first time on April 26. Despite the arrest of thousands of suspected gang members, the extension of the state of emergency is necessary, says Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele.
