Bundesliga club Hertha BSC will have to do without left winger Chidera Ejuke for the start of the competitive game after the winter break at VfL Bochum. As the club in the capital announced on Monday, the 25-year-old Nigerian suffered a knee ligament injury in the friendly against The Villages SC (7-1) and is therefore out for the time being.
Ejuke, who has been used in all 15 Bundesliga games under coach Sandro Schwarz, will leave the training camp in Florida on Tuesday and start his journey home to Berlin.
“Chidi gets every support from us and will be treated conservatively after his return to Berlin,” said Hertha managing director Fredi Bobic. The winger will be “introduced back to team training as soon as possible”.
At table penultimate Bochum, Hertha, threatened with relegation, is challenged on January 21st. With 14 points, the Black Elf is in 15th place, just one point ahead of VfL.
