The Berliners lost 4-2 in Ingolstadt on Boxing Day and are therefore still in danger of relegation.

The Eisbären Berlin still lack the necessary consistency in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Monday, the German champions lost 2:4 (1:1, 1:1, 0:2) at ERC Ingolstadt. Goals from Marcel Noebels and Maximilian Heim were not enough for the capitals to collect important points in the relegation battle.

In front of 3,766 spectators in the Ingolstadt Arena, the hosts got off to a strong start and took the lead immediately after their first power play with a goal from Marko Friedrich. The guests only became more dangerous after the game ended prematurely for Ingolstadt’s Enrico Henriquez-Morales due to an unfair check: Noebels equalized when both teams were four on the ice.

After the first break, the encounter remained hard fought. Heim was successful for the Berliners with a well-placed long-range shot, 33 seconds before the end of the period Charles Bertrand scored the equalizer for Oberbayern on a power play.

Final third brings the decision

In the final section, the hosts increased the pressure again, which the polar bears couldn’t withstand long enough. With their late goals, Benjamin Marshall and Mirko Höfflin ensured Ingolstadt’s deserved success, which improved them to second place in the table. The Berliners are still only in 13th place.
