The Eisbären Berlin have continued their series of failures in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Tuesday evening, the German champions lost 2:4 (0:1, 1:2, 1:1) at the Düsseldorfer EG and thus suffered their fourth defeat in a row.

Alexandre Grenier and Marcel Noebels scored for the capitals, who failed to achieve enough in attack.

In front of 5423 spectators in the Düsseldorf multi-purpose hall, both teams neutralized each other in the early minutes before the hosts became more dangerous. Brendan O’Donnell gave the Rhinelanders the lead in the first power play.

The Berliners also had a few chances, but the home side remained the more determined team and extended their lead in the second third with a goal from Philip Gogulla.

Now the capitals increased the pressure, Grenier scored the goal. The guests now pushed for an equalizer, but Alexander Ehl restored the old distance after a counterattack from Düsseldorf.

After Leonhard Pföderl was unable to convert a penalty for the polar bears in the final section, the defending champion remained too harmless. O’Donnell scored his second after Berlin goalie Tobias Ancicka went off the ice in favor of a sixth fielder before Noebels doubled the lead to level the game.
