“He decides”
“I’m lucky that I was able to get to know him and train him,” said Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner recently about the age leader in the Bundesliga, 38-year-old Makoto Hasebe. Since the 2019/20 season, when Claudio Pizarro was back on the field for Werder Bremen at almost 42, no one has been older in a Bundesliga assignment than SGE veteran Hasebe. Of course, one always expects the departure of the Japanese, who should switch to the coaching staff after his active time. But that doesn’t have to be next summer. A possible top rank in the club’s history could offer an incentive to play longer.
Although Hasebe’s player contract is only scheduled to run until 2023, then the step into the functional team (contract until 2027) could follow, but Eintracht sports director Markus Krösche made it clear to “Sky”: “That’s up to Makoto. We discussed that he decides whether he wants to continue playing or not. That is entirely in his hands. If Makoto says he wants to keep playing for another year, then he keeps playing.”
So with rabbit I really have to apologize.
Before the season I would have bet that he wouldn’t play that much this season, especially from the start, for 90 minutes and against the right crackers.
Really crass the man (which was actually clear to me beforehand)! …
If the 114-time national player really does have another active year, a prominent entry in the history books beckons. If used from late summer 2023, Hasebe could distinguish himself as the oldest player in club history. So far, Rudi Bommer leads the ranking with a competitive game in 1997 at the age of 39 years, 7 months and 17 days. Eintracht is now holding the door open for Hasebe to surpass this value. “Makoto is a professional who not only has a lot of experience, but also treats his body very professionally,” explained Krösche. “It allows him to perform. He anticipates many situations through his experience because he is a very smart player. He is an important stabilizer for us as a team.”
