Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt is working according to a media report to strengthen its squad with a promising defender. The newcomer will therefore not serve in the second half of the season at the SGE.
Eintracht Frankfurt is interested in the services of Hrvoje Smolcic, reports the “kicker”. The two-time Croatian U21 international is under contract with his youth club HNK Rijeka. His working paper in the coastal city runs until 2023.
The left-footer, who feels at home in central defense, is one of the regular team of coach Goran Tomic this season. To date, Smolcic has started twelve times in Rijeka.
As the sports magazine further explains, the youngster should play the season for his home club to the end even if Eintracht Frankfurt is signed. There he should get the necessary match practice, which is then necessary for the step into the German Bundesliga.
Eintracht Frankfurt pays a low single-digit transfer fee
According to the report, two to three million euros are being discussed as a replacement for Hrvoje Smolcic. Also the Croatian portal “germanijak.hr“reports on an imminent change. Accordingly, Rijeka has received an offer of 2.5 million euros as well as a 25 to 30 percent profit share in a resale.
So far, the Hessians have not signed a new signing in the winter. Last summer, only Christopher Lenz from 1. FC Union Berlin was signed in the defensive position.
In addition, Eintracht brought in Kristijan Jakic a compatriot from Hrvoje Smolcic, according to “germanijak.hr” the club from Frankfurt is therefore a suitable contact point for the Rijeka defender. The agreement between all parties is imminent, the report said.
